In this issue of The Lady : How time flies… and how fast they grow up. Children,
I mean. Late last month, Prince George of
Cambridge celebrated his first birthday, seemingly
only moments after he was introduced to
the world on a bright summer’s day in 2013.
But just what is it like to grow up as a member
of the Royal Family? Well, a new exhibition at
Buckingham Palace sets out to offer a glimpse
into 250 years of Royal childhood. I still want
to know whether a little prince, or princess,
has ever run riot with a red crayon in a state
room, but the exhibition does paint a colourful,
intimate portrait of our young royals, as
you can read on page 14.
We also have the splendid writer and
Prime Suspect creator Lynda La Plante on
Dame Helen Mirren, bringing back her most
famous character – policewoman Jane Tennison – and why she’d
have given up every word she has ever written to have had a child
of her own; an evocative account of one lady WAAF’s war in Wales,
and our essential guide to keeping your animal companions happy.
But that’s enough from me. It’s time you spent a little time with
your favourite Lady.
Very best wishes,
