The Lady October 16, 2015 00:00

In this issue of The Lady : Dear Readers,
Beady-eyed regulars might have already noticed
that we have a new cartoon strip drawn by the
hugely talented Kathryn Lamb. Each week we
will be following the antics of Social Medea and
her husband Social Norm. Will she ever come
off Facebook or Twitter? She is the brainchild of our new cartoons
editor, the esteemed Richard Ingrams, a man who prides himself
on never having switched on a computer, preferring instead the
simple things in life. Like a walk across the South Downs.
Like so many things, we often
take the rolling landscapes that
form the backdrop to our beautiful
countryside for granted and it can
fall to an outsider to remind us how
lucky we are. That outsider may
well be the American-born writer Bill Bryson who has just
undertaken another tour of our glorious island for his latest book.
His message? Get out and enjoy it more – and make sure it’s
Turning themselves into beautiful creatures is the primary
goal of our fi ve podgy pets as they make their follow-up visits to
their fi t camp. Will Duke the Labrador have lost any weight? Has
Jemma the dachshund cross learnt to live without her Sunday
roasties? To take their minds off it, perhaps their owners might
like to take them on one of our irresistible winter breaks. And
perhaps we might all join them.
Until next week, best wishes,
Sam Taylor, Editor
