In this issue of The Lady : Recently there has been something of a sweetly
scented revolution in the fashion and beauty
world, led by women who look amazing for their
age. Generation Glam they are being called
– women for whom age is merely a number.
This year, London Fashion Week saw the start of a new 50-plus
catwalk show. Our cover star Stefanie Lange is 69 years old but
still turns heads. And no, she hasn’t had any ‘work’ done.
Earlier this year the actress Isabella Rossellini became the
face of Lancôme at 64 years old – a job she had previously been
fired from for being too old at 44. Their bold achievements – and
wise tips – stand as inspiration for younger women and beacons
of hope for those who are a teeny bit worried about their date of
birth. Times are changing: we should embrace life and live it.
Certainly that’s what Colin Taylor thought when he gave
up a successful career as a field biologist to become the Scilly
Sergeant, a middle-aged policeman on the Scilly Isles. His
Twitter and Facebook updates about abandoned goldfish, his
lazy deputy chief constable Mowgli (a plump silver-haired cat)
and the mystery of a fried egg at a crime scene have now made
him a best-selling author and major tourist attraction.
But if becoming a catwalk model or undercover detective seems
a bit too much this week, you could just sit back and contemplate
our four pages of utterly gorgeous summer dresses. They say
change comes from within, but a nice frock certainly helps.
