In this issue of The Lady : Stefanie Powers was in her early 20s when
she fell in love with Hollywood heart-throb
William Holden and was catapulted into
a long love affair that transcended their
25-year age gap. But, as she tells us in a rare
interview, it left her with a lifetime of regrets. Should she
have married him? Could she have saved him from his death
brought on by alcoholism? She has a home in London and says
that the English are very much part of her soul, that it is easier to
be oneself here. Certainly I feel Stefanie has no shortage of fans
on this side of the pond or, I hope, among our readers.
One of the things many of us may have in common with
this star of screen and TV is a love of gardening, and even the
smallest spaces can give the greatest pleasure as patio expert
Noel Kingsbury explains in our gardening pages. It is also very
therapeutic and good for your health as our fitness columnist
Diana Moran has often reminded us. This week she has some
encouraging tips for those who are tipping the wrong side of the
scales and would like to do something about it.
Having read Ben Felsenburg’s TV review, I shall be concentrating on counting down to Sunday night and the return of the drama-filled Poldark. I may have to do some calming colouring in while I wait.
Until next week, best wishes
Sam Taylor, Editor
